Here’s to a bottle of Cheval Blanc…

January 3, 2011 by Ullrich

…which I had – amongst too many others – with dear friends on New Year’s eve. You might have mentioned that my blog was down for a while due to my other workload, yet this was too memorable to be skipped. We were four around the table, it was the 31st of December, you know, we were waiting for 2011, we had steamed shrimps and stuffed lamb and stuff and, yes, we drank far too much, but who cares. In […]

A bottle of red, a bottle of white…

May 30, 2010 by Ullrich

…at the Baron Rouge you will find all you need for a nice apéro or rustic lunch or dinner, or you just have a glass at any point of a sunny day watching people passing by and friends shaking hands, you know the deal: this is a feel-good-place, easy-going, nice, very Parisian, just ’round the corner of the Aligre market, just perfect. May 11, 2010 by Ullrich

You enter – and you’re elsewhere; you leave the city to only really get there, you see, the passages of Paris are a magical mystery tour. You stroll along windows and mirrors, which invite you to think about yourself and other peoples’ lifes. And you […]

Good food for good friends…

May 9, 2010 by Ullrich

…leads to a good party on a Saturday evening in Paris. On my buffet yesterday: mackerels cooked in miso, Vietnamese spring rolls, Wiener Schnitzel as finger food, Thai spiced chicken (with loads of coriander), Japanese-style cabbage salad, Italian-style salade folle, and a lot of FRENCH cheese. Camembert de Normandie, Ossau-Iraty, Valencay and Puligny, Neufchâtel and Crottin de Chavignol, Roquefort and Bleu d’Auvergne, Epoisse and Rocamadour, accompanied by Champagne and wines from Languedoc, Minervois, Alsace and Bordeaux. At 4 o’clock in the […]

Where to buy your wine in Paris…

April 11, 2010 by Ullrich

…is a one-million-dollar-question in the life of this city. There’s only a couple of choices, actually. You can try your luck in the supermarkets which might sound weird but doesn’t have to be the wrong idea in France. Here, Carrefour, Intermarché and others quite often pick some of the better wines of a year and sell them at reasonable prices (to polish their image and overall “Frenchness”). You could, secondly, become a client of the big caviste chains like Nicolas or […]
